Queen Maeve’s Trail & Carrowmore Tombs

$20.00 – $45Walk with your professional archaeologist guide up Knocknarea Mountain and learn about the landscape and the archaeology while you marvel at a great megalithic wonder- the burial place of Queen Maeve of Connaught who reigned over this land in the 1st Century AD. Fabulous views over Sligo and the Atlantic Ocean. This hike will take your breath away and is ideal for families. We will pass a famine village on the way up and there are happy mountain sheep all around you. Your children can learn all about the mountain and its magic. After this mountain walk, we will drive for c 10 mins to another amazing archaeological site called the Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery. Here, you will walk with your guide around very special burial places of the ancient Irish. These graves date back to 4000 BC!
Important details:
Terrain is track, rocky path and scrub, some steepness and height is 326 metres. Hike takes c 2 hrs (with stops)
Hiking boots a must or strong walking shoes and waterproof clothing a necessity in case of wind and rain.
