Trails and Tales, Dunes and RuinsI was one of a group of six women in Sligo for two days. We had a fantastic time. On our first day we met Auriel in Strandhill and she brought us on a fabulous walk over rocks, shore and dunes ending up in a pub for a delicious seafood chowder. The following day we joined her at Streedagh Strand for the Spanish Armada Trail. Her knowledge is encyclopaedic and so interesting, her enthusiasm is infectious. I would highly recommend Seatrails and I can’t wait to join Auriel again on another trail.
Wonderful walk with Auriel along a rugged beach coastlineMy husband and I loved our walk with Auriel and her Kerry Blue, Sahara. We learned so much about the flora, rocks and their fossils, and an ancient old megalithic tomb. Best of all was the history she shared about the Spanish Armada, it’s ship wrecks, and details of that 1588 incident. She is very knowledgeable and has a wonderful way of teaching and explaining. Her tour was a highlight for us, and we highly recommend her tours.
Knocknarea & Benbulben HikesWe have joined Auriel in Seatrails to climb both Knocknarea and Benbulben in Sligo. I highly recommend Auriel as a guide. She is a lovely, warm, fun person and is extremely knowledgeable on many topics – history, archeology, geology, marine life..the list goes on! Hikes and trails are carefully and safely planned and Auriel ensures that any additional needs in the group are taken into consideration. Thanks Auriel for making these experiences memorable!
Worth Going To Sligo For ThisHad a great experience with Auriel. She has a huge depth of knowledge about the tombs and the area in general and she thinks of everything – even bringing snacks and hot drinks! I chose to visit Sligo because Seatrails was so highly rated here on TripAdvisor and I was not disappointed. (Sligo is a great town, btw.) We did the Carrowkeel tombs and the Sligo caves and she customized it all to fit our needs.
Beautiful scenery and informative guideMy partner and I booked a Rosses Point historical guided walk with Auriel. We found this to be both interesting and informative. Auriel was a pleasant and amiable guide who was well researched on the local area. Would definitely try the other walks on our next visit.
Carrowkeel WalkWe met Auriel at a nearby gas station. This was a brilliant idea on her part as the beginning of the trail would have been hard (near impossible) for us to find otherwise. Auriel is an archaeologist and really loves what she does. It comes out in here presentation during the walk. She brought us up the path at a good pace. My wife needed a few breaks and she was fine with that and encouraged her to go at her own pace. We were able to go inside 2 of the 3 ancient burial tombs. She helped get in and out the easiest way. While in the tombs Auriel gave us information about why and how they were built. I would recommend booking with Auriel to do a tour if you’re in Sligo. When we come back, we will do a different tour with her.
Children got to experience a completely new subject of Marine archaeology. Using the hook of wrecks off our shores Auriel captured the imagination of every pupil in the class. Great links back to Rathcroghan and Knocknarea.
We were delighted with Auriel’s visit. She brought the children on a heritage trip to Roscommon Castle and facilitated a biodiversity workshop on Loughnennane Park having presented a workshop on Marine Habitats in the school. She was very well prepared, brought plenty of samples of fossils and seaweed and engaged really well with the children. It was a really memorable day.
Excellent Spanish Armada TourWe had a lovely day exploring the Sligo coast with Auriel. She’s a very knowledgeable and friendly host and seems fascinated herself by the geology and history of the area. We learned about the wrecked Spanish Armada ships and the adventures of the Spanish survivor De Cuéllar; saw a 5,000-year-old Stone Age wedge tomb; saw tonnes of fossilised coral, and iron seeping through the limestone, all in a really beautiful part of Sligo. What a grand day! Much appreciated and recommended.
