‘I did a 4 hour hack with Auriel on the Spanish Armada trail/Heritage on Horseback Experience. It was very informative. The horse I was given was a well-mannered gentlemen, I was well matched to my horse . The canter on the beautiful beach and the picnic on the island will stay with me.’ Tara H, Nuneaton, United Kingdom, Oct 2019.
A Great day with SeatrailsGreat to have been one of the groups on the Spanish Armada Trail that took place today at Streedagh Strand. Thank you Auriel for giving us a great tour of the area and thanks very much for all the very interesting information on the history of the Spanish Armada ship wrecks. Plus, super to hear so much about the local history surrounding the area and all the information on the fossils that are to be found in this part of the country. Enjoyed my day very much with Seatrails.
‘We have joined Auriel on a number of walks in and around the historic/archaeological areas Sligo over the last few years and could not recommend her walks highly enough. Informative, interesting and always well researched. If you are in Sligo and are looking for a brilliant day out I wouldn’t hesitate to contact her. I am thinking of learning to ride a horse to be able to join one of her horse treks.’Pat D, Aug 2019.
Absolutely fascinating and insightful trail with Auriel. A beakon of knowledge about Knocknashee and the diverse archeology that exists on these plains. Spectacular views, amazing to see 4 counties MidTrail. Auriels enthusiasm is infectious, was left brimming with wonder. As a Sligo native to be given this level of inquiry about our ancient history is truly fascinating. This Trail is a Must-Do for any and all that are lucky to peep into the stories that surround Cnoc Na Sidhe (the hill or the faries).
Children got to experience a completely new subject of Marine archaeology. Using the hook of wrecks off our shores Auriel captured the imagination of every pupil in the class. Great links back to Rathcroghan and Knocknarea.
‘Excellent walk today around Strandhill with Auriel. Learnt a lot about the local history of the local area. Would highly recommend and will definitely use again when we return to the area. Many thanks😀’Nick C, July 2019, Chippenham, United Kingdom
I’ve been one of the groups on the Bricklieve mountain trail and Queen Maeve’s trail. I really appreciated Auriel for giving us a great tour of the area and I’m grateful for all interesting information about the history and geography. I loved to hear so much about the local history surrounding the area and all the information about the tombs that are to be found in this part of the country. Enjoyed the time I spent exploring around with Seatrails.Kellfc.August 2020
We were delighted with Auriel’s visit. She brought the children on a heritage trip to Roscommon Castle and facilitated a biodiversity workshop on Loughnennane Park having presented a workshop on Marine Habitats in the school. She was very well prepared, brought plenty of samples of fossils and seaweed and engaged really well with the children. It was a really memorable day.
Excellent Spanish Armada TourWe had a lovely day exploring the Sligo coast with Auriel. She’s a very knowledgeable and friendly host and seems fascinated herself by the geology and history of the area. We learned about the wrecked Spanish Armada ships and the adventures of the Spanish survivor De Cuéllar; saw a 5,000-year-old Stone Age wedge tomb; saw tonnes of fossilised coral, and iron seeping through the limestone, all in a really beautiful part of Sligo. What a grand day! Much appreciated and recommended.
My Favourite Day in Ireland! We had a whirlwind of a day; had lost our passports that morning and were late to the ride because we were trying to track them down. Auriel was extremely understanding and accommodating and allowed us to reschedule with ease. The stables felt like home. Auriel is so energetic and friendly – she made our whole day turn around (even shared her jacket and gloves with me since I wasn’t prepared). From the stables, you can see the most amazing views of the beach and nearby countryside. Our ride touched every part of that! It wasn’t only scenic, but Auriel is filled with knowledge. She gave us so much history of every area we visited and more. She was also extremely patient as I was a beginner and my boyfriend better at riding. She spent time with us both on the ride. At the end, she shared hot chocolate and treats and showed us her expansive collection of photos that related to the history we shared. It was an unforgettable experience. If you come across Sligo, you MUST go on one of her rides!
